Get a Library Card

Get a free Danville Public Library card and gain access to a wealth of resources. Cardholders may borrow materials such as books, DVDs, and music CDs, use public computers, and access online resources such as eBooks, language lessons, testing practice, and digital magazines.  

​Who Can Sign Up
Anyone who resides in the City of Danville may obtain a library card for free. Non-residents who live within a 50-mile radius of the main library may also obtain a library card for free.

Individuals under the age of 18 need a parent or guardian's signature to complete the application.


How to Sign Up
You can sign up for a library card at either of our two locations. Adults must complete and sign an application and present one of the following:

  • A current, valid ID with photo, name, and address (Driver's license or state ID) OR
  • Two pieces of current identification, one of which must include name and address, and one of which must include name and photo.  Accepted forms of ID include utility bill or cable bill, mail postmarked in the past 30 days, or voter registration card. PO Boxes will not be accepted.

​How to Sign Up Online (New!)


City of Danville residents can now register for a Danville Public Library card online. You’ll be able to gain access to all our digital resources. You will be able to pick up your library card with your valid ID during our curbside service hours; staff will explain the hours over the phone.

  1. Click here
  2. Fill in all the required information and click on Submit.
  3. You will receive an email with a temporary barcode number (You will not have to remember this number.)
  4. We will verify your information and call you with your library card number and PIN (This will take a few days.)
  5. Once you receive your card number and PIN, you will have access to all of our online resources including Hoopla and Libby, which both offer e-books, streaming movies, and music
  6. To fully unlock your library account and to be able to check out physical materials, you can pick up your card during our curbside service hours on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday with your valid State or Federal ID or in person when we reopen. Staff will explain the hours over the phone
Please remember:
  • If you already have an account, you do not need to register again.
  • You must be a resident of City of Danville (Proof of physical address required, no P.O. Boxes.)
  • You must be 13+ years old (Students without valid state or Federal IDs will not be able to receive a physical card unless accompanied by a parent.)
  • Temporary online cards will expire in three months.
  • You must have an active email address.
